About TTO

What is Tanzania Tour Operators?

TTO is a marketplace where you can compare locally owned tour operators, tour packages, places to stay, restaurants and local experts in Tanzania and Kenya, and send a request to the ones you like.

Is TTO a travel agency or a tour operator?

No. We do not run trips, and we do not sell them. The trips and stays on the site are provided by the partners who list them, and your arrangement is with them. Our Terms of Use explain what we are and are not responsible for.

Is it free to use?

Yes. Browsing, saving and sending requests are free for travellers.

Planning and sending a request

How do I send a request?

Open a tour, stay, restaurant or operator page and choose your dates and group size, then press Continue. Add your name, email, phone number and a message, and send. The request goes directly to the business.

Why do you ask for my phone number with a country code?

Many operators answer by WhatsApp or phone. A number that starts with a country code, for example +255 or +44, lets them reach you wherever you are.

Does sending a request commit me to anything?

No. A request does not hold a date, a room, a table or a price until the business confirms it. You can ask several businesses and compare their answers.

How quickly will I hear back?

Partners are asked to reply within 24 hours. The reply comes by email, phone or WhatsApp, depending on what you chose. If you have heard nothing after a few days, check your spam folder, then write to us at [email protected].

Can I change a tour to suit me?

Yes. Most operators adapt dates, routes, camps and accommodation. Say what you would like to change in your request and ask for a tailored quote.

How many operators should I contact?

Two or three is enough to compare. Give each the same dates, group size and budget so the quotes line up.

When should I book?

Six to nine months ahead for June to September and for Christmas, when the best camps sell out. Low-season trips can often be arranged within weeks.

Prices and payments

Do I pay TTO?

No. TTO does not take payments or deposits. You agree the trip and the price with the operator and pay them directly, using the methods they offer.

Is the estimated total a quote?

No. The estimate is a guide worked out from the prices the partner has given us for your dates and group size. The partner’s own written quote is the price that counts.

How much does a Tanzania safari cost?

Most tour packages cost between about $200 and $600 per person per day. Budget camping trips start lower, and luxury fly-in safaris cost more. Prices rise in the dry season from June to October. Our guide How much does a Tanzania safari cost? goes into detail.

What should I check is included?

Compare park fees, accommodation, meals, drinks, vehicle and guide, airport transfers, flights and tips. Each tour page lists what is included and what is not, so you can compare like with like.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Each operator sets its own payment and cancellation terms, shown on its tour pages. Read them before you pay, and ask about travel insurance.

Operators, safety and verification

How do I know an operator is legitimate?

We ask each operator for its tourism licence before it is listed. A verified badge means our team has seen the licence documents the operator sent us. Also read recent reviews and the operator’s replies. Our guide How to choose a safari tour operator lists what to look for.

Does verified mean guaranteed?

No. It is not a guarantee of the quality, safety or financial standing of a business. We cannot check every detail, so please confirm what is included, how you will pay and the cancellation terms with the operator.

Are the operators locally owned?

Yes, they are companies based in East Africa.

Do I need travel insurance, visas or vaccinations?

Entry rules, health advice and insurance needs change, and they depend on your nationality. Check official government sources and ask your operator what cover they require, especially for mountain treks.

Reviews

Who can write a review?

Signed-in travellers can review an operator, one of its tours, a place to stay or a restaurant, once per business. You can add a title, your trip details and up to five photos.

Are reviews checked?

Yes. Our team checks every review against our Review and Community Guidelines before it is published. We look for things such as links, fake accounts and reviews written by the business itself.

Can a business remove a bad review?

No. Businesses can reply in public, but they cannot delete reviews. Reviews can be taken down by our team only when they break the guidelines. If you think a review was declined or removed by mistake, write to [email protected].

Your account

Do I need an account?

Not to browse or to send a request. An account lets you save places across devices, follow your requests and the replies you receive, and write reviews.

How do I change my details or close my account?

Open your account settings. You can change your name, email and password, or close your account. Requests you already sent stay with the businesses that received them, but are no longer linked to you. Use “Lost your password?” on the sign-in page if you cannot get in.

What do you do with my information?

We use it to send your request to the business and to run the site. See our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. For questions or requests about your data, write to [email protected].

For businesses

How do I list my business?

Go to the partner page and choose to list a tour operator, a place to stay or a restaurant. You will create an account, add your details and photos, and our team reviews the listing before it goes live.

My business is already listed. How do I take control of it?

Open its page and choose “Claim this listing”. We check the claim before we give you access. If the listing already has a manager, write to [email protected].

What documents do tour operators need?

A current tourism licence (TALA) and a business licence are required at sign-up. A TIN and a VAT registration number are optional.

Do you charge a fee to list?

Please write to us at [email protected] and we will explain current terms.
